Mission
SAVOAD's mission is to bring together voluntary organizations that provide services during times of disaster so we can all provide a more effective response to people affected through Communication, Cooperation, Coordination, Education, and Planning.
The Purpose is to bring together City, State, and National agencies with volunteer Agencies, provide direction, and inform about volunteer organizations. SAVOAD guiding principles are central to achieving effective response to disaster. Those principles defined are:
Communication
We will periodically publish and disseminate information through directories or member organizations and resources.
Cooperation
We will seek to create a climate for cooperation by meeting together periodically and sharing information.
Coordination
We will seek to have common understanding about how we serve, and develop advocacy and liaison with public officials.
Education
We seek to increase awareness on two levels. First, we will seek to have a mutual understanding of each organization providing disaster services and, secondarily, we will seek to inform the public (especially public officials) regarding the work of member organizations.
Planning
We seek to be better prepared for disasters when they occur by planning in advance ways in which we may better serve those who are affected by disaster.
